About Us
Redditch Co-operative Homes (RCH) provides a wide range of affordable housing. We are based in Redditch and support five neighbourhood co-operatives that are self-managed by the people who live there.
The organisation is one of seven partners of the Accord Group. We house people who are registered with the council and who are prepared to take an active part in their housing and in building a strong community.
The co-operatives we work with are:
- Pioneer Housing Co-operative
- Riverside Housing Co-operative
- Winyates Co-operative
- Breedon Housing Co-operative
- Redditch Co-operative 2000.
All of our co-operatives are run by the tenants of our homes. If you were successful in your application to be housed by Redditch Co-operative Homes, you would need to be involved the management of your property.
Being a member of a co-operative means you have all the rights of a tenant of a housing association (excluding the right to buy) with added benefits.
You have the right to live in your property according to your tenancy agreement in the same way you would with any other landlord. You have the right to a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service, the right to request details about your rent and be informed with due notice of any increase.
In addition and most importantly, you have the right and duty to participate in running your co-operative.
This means that you can to vote at meetings to decide what sorts of services will be provided and how. You will need to give up a small amount of your spare time but with the following advantages:
- The more members volunteering to do the work, the better the homes will be as the co-operative will have its costs kept lower than other housing providers
- You have collective control over your housing and environment
- You can learn more about the housing system
- You can receive training to enable you to manage your co-op – providing you with skills that can be transferred into other areas of your life and increasing your opportunities for employment
- You can help create sustainable communities, building links with your co-op neighbours, and other community links such as schools, playgroups or neighbourhood watch schemes
- In some cases you will also be able to have a say in the way your property is designed, such as choices of kitchen units or bathroom or kitchen tiles.
